FedSMR-D2 Government Trunked Radio
Trunking is the automatic sharing of multiple radio channels between several separate radio user groups. Your radio is part of a private “talkgroup”; when the transmit button is pressed, the FedSMR-D2 system assigns your radio and all talkgroup members a private channel so that you can talk with your team. When your call is finished, the channel is released to be ready for the next call assignment. This provides fast and efficient use of valuable radio spectrum.
Traditional radio systems use a dedicated radio at a building or tower site. The radio can support at most two simultaneous radio calls, plus the height of the repeater’s antenna limits the range. The only way to increase system range is to get much higher antenna height or to network several sites; both options are quite costly.
The FedSMR-D2 digital trunked radio achieves greater range by trunking several radio repeaters at a site and linking many sites together via an IP network. This provides a greater range and much higher capacity than using a single tower site.
Our secure AES-encrypted digital backbone system offers expanded coverage area, electronic security, interoperability, and a choice of multiple subscriber radio manufacturers for the mobile and portable radios. Your agency does not have to budget a large expenditure to build a radio system; simply purchase or lease the portable radios and subscribe to the service.
The FedSMR-D2 uses an Open Standard DMR Tier 3 digital backbone to connect several radio sites to give the user a wide area of radio coverage and advanced secure radio operation. Radio users can talk on their group at one site or between sites as the radio will automatically roam to the nearest radio site. One low monthly price will give each user unlimited access to the network.
Each mobile and portable radio is provided with an individual ID number and an electronic serial number. Both of these numbers must match the system’s database in order to place a radio call. This function allows a radio to be disabled temporarily, “stunned” if misplaced, or permanently “killed” if lost or stolen. This prevents your radio operations from being compromised should the radio fall into the wrong hands.
When a radio call is received, the calling radio ID or name is displayed on your radio. You know instantly who is calling.
Talkgroups – Each functional working group in your agency can have its own radio Talkgroup. A talkgroup is like a radio channel; all radios selected to the same talkgroup can talk and listen to each other regardless of what radio site they are on.
Priority Level – Emergency Operations, Security, and other vital talkgroups can be assigned a higher priority to ensure the fastest system access.
All Call – A one-way priority broadcast can be sent to all radio users regardless of the selected talkgroup. Useful for periodic announcements or emergency message alerts
Emergency Call – Radios equipped with a dedicated Red emergency button can initiate an emergency call. This call can be set to trigger an alarm notification at a fixed base station or dispatch console. Once the Emer button is pressed, the notification is sent, and the radio mic can remain on for 30 seconds to allow the initiator to describe the emergency and their location without the need to press the transmit button.
Private Call – Portable radios have a contact list that will enable the user to privately call another user in the list.
Short Message – Portable radios can send preconfigured short text messages to units in the contact list or to designated units. This can be useful to indicate the start of a tour or status update.
Voice Encryption – Many radios can be protected with digital encryption. We offer 3 levels of voice and data encryption, including ARC-4 and AES 256-bit and AES-256 FIPS 140-2. All encryption is end-to-end, meaning that the trunked radio system is transparent to all encryption.
Communication Management – Multiple talkgroups and advanced calling features are provided to dispatchers via touchscreen communication management dispatch workstations. Command and control centers need powerful and easy-to-use tools to manage the activities of multiple user groups. Emergency call handling, All Call, cross-patching, and Interoperability are keys to an efficient dispatch operation.
Integration of Other Services – Private radio systems and MCX (Mission Critical over Cellular) networks can be integrated into your FedSMR-D2 talkgroups. Management users can use a smartphone app to access your radio system as needed. Services such as Motorola WAVE and ESChat are fully supported.
